“Environmental Terrorism”

A State capital and several communities across the North Central, South East, and South South have been submerged in the last one week.  Hundreds of lives have been lost.  Properties running into hundreds of billions have been lost.  Entire farmlands have been wiped out threatening foods supply for next year.

These floods have been recurring at least every four to six years since 1969.  The only thing serious we hear from the Government is that people should have evacuated on time.  An exasperated technocrat whose newly completed house was submerged in the Anambra West local government area described the situation as “’Environmental Terrorism” unleashed on the people by the Government”’

Most stakeholders believe strongly that the Federal Government has had more than enough time to bring a final solution to the perennial flood menace.

Atiku, Obi, Tinubu – chinks in their armor

As campaigns gradually picked up last week, the excitement in the build up to the open season is gradually giving way to doubts.

Alhaji Abubakar Atiku’s campaign in Ogun State raised once again the issue of “95 per cent”.  Atiku made it clear that only individuals and communities that vote from him would benefit from his government, if and when, he becomes President.  People are beginning to wonder what kind of government that would be.

Peter Obi’s manifesto is finally out.  Political watchers are beginning to try and match his pre-campaign statements to what is believed to be contained in the manifesto.  His latest love for the removal of import and export restrictions is seen to be at variance with his earlier stand for a production driven economy.

People are beginning to insinuate that the “Lion of Bourdillon” may have become “The Sheep of Bourdillon” following the return of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the United Kingdom.  His speech at the very first interview were said to be hardly coherent.
